Vision Insurance vs. Medical Insurance
Vision and medical insurance both play important roles in eye care, but they cover different types of services.

Vision insurance is used for routine eye care, like yearly eye exams, updating your glasses or contact lens prescription, and getting new eyewear. Plans like VSP or EyeMed typically cover part of the cost of exams, frames, and lenses.

Medical insurance covers visits related to eye health problems or medical conditions. This includes things like dry eyes, eye infections, sudden vision changes, or management of conditions like diabetes, glaucoma, or cataracts. In these cases, plans like Medicare or Blue Cross Blue Shield would apply.

If your visit includes both a routine exam and a medical issue, we may bill both types of insurance depending on what’s addressed during your appointment. If you’re unsure which insurance applies, just ask! We're here to help.
